The Indian Governance and Policy Project (IGAP) hosted a session at the India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) 2025 on building a fair, accountable, and inclusive platform economy. Organised in collaboration with Chase Advisors and The Dialogue, the discussion examined the future of digital work in India, focusing on social protection, platform governance, regulatory challenges, and the need to balance innovation with worker rights.

As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes the global balance of power, this dialogue addressed its implications for India’s national security strategy. The roundtable explored the evolving role of AI in geopolitics, defence, and cyber warfare; deliberated on India’s pursuit of strategic autonomy in AI infrastructure and compute capabilities; and critically examined AI’s nature as a dual-use technology.

On 31 January 2025, the Indian Governance & Policy Project (IGAP), in collaboration with Politics For Impact, organised an event for Members of Parliament in New Delhi. The event featured a briefing on the Digital Personal Data Protection Framework.

India, with its extensive experience in building digital public infrastructure, is uniquely positioned to lead the Global South in shaping inclusive and equitable AI frameworks. The panel recommended leveraging existing mechanisms and fostering multilateral collaboration to enable India to influence international open-source AI governance, in order to address its socio-economic and security priorities.
