On 16 March 2026, the Indian Governance and Policy Project (IGAP) conducted a Certificate Course on “Practical Introduction to Artificial Intelligence for Law Students” at National Law University, Delhi, for 3rd, 4th, and 5th year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) students. The programme offered a structured, practice-oriented introduction to AI for future legal professionals, covering four core themes:

  • Understanding AI Systems — Foundational concepts including algorithms, training data, large language models, and generative AI
  • Risks, Governance and Policy Frameworks — AI ethics principles, hallucinations, bias, explainability, automation-related harms, and governance considerations around transparency, liability, and institutional oversight
  • Regulatory Frameworks — The EU AI Act, India’s DPDP Act, intermediary liability, synthetic media, and platform responsibility
  • AI in Legal Practice — Applications in research, drafting, due diligence, and document review, alongside professional duties in an AI-integrated workplace
Guest sessions were led by Namrata Ramachandran (Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.) and Gangesh Varma (Saraf and Partners), who brought practice-level and institutional perspectives to the programme.
