Symposium on ‘AI, Dual-use Technology and National Security: India’s Strategic Imperative’
Date: 29th April, 2025
Venue: India Habitat Centre, New Delhi
Organised by: Indian Governance and Policy Project (IGAP) in collaboration with the Strategic Research and Growth Foundation (SRGF)
IGAP convened a closed-door roundtable at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The session focused on the critical theme: ‘AI, Dual-use Technology and National Security: India’s Strategic Imperative.’ The discussion brought together a high-level cohort comprising senior officials from the Government of India and the Indian Armed Forces, senior officials from major technology firms, academic experts, policy analysts, and innovators from India’s deep-tech startup ecosystem.
As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes the global balance of power, this dialogue addressed its implications for India’s national security strategy. The roundtable explored the evolving role of AI in geopolitics, defence, and cyber warfare; deliberated on India’s pursuit of strategic autonomy in AI infrastructure and compute capabilities; and critically examined AI’s nature as a dual-use technology. The conversation also highlighted the importance of robust AI governance frameworks and ethical safeguards in the national security domain.
IGAP remains committed to advancing this essential dialogue and fostering collaborative efforts at the intersection of AI and national security.
